Comfort and Character: My First Indoor Ballpark Experience at Tropicana Field

By Bill Perkins
Orange County, CA

The year was 2013 when I was visiting family in Wildwood, Florida. My aunt recommended we go to a Rays game because she knew my love for the game, so off we went to the Trop.

It was the first time I had been in an indoor stadium, so of course I had to take a walk around. The Yankees were in town, and it was towards the end of the season. Mariano did Mariano things and got the save. The stadium was amazing, the people were amazing, the food was very good, and the whole experience was a ton of fun. I was taken aback by how big the stadium looks on TV, versus the actual size when in the stadium. It was comfortable and very inviting; I actually didn't feel like there was a bad seat in the house.

I intended to go back to the Trop in 2025, but now those memories will stay forever as my first indoor ballpark. I am looking forward to going back to see the Rays in their new home, wherever that may be.
